A Festival of Music this Weekend

You can listen to a host of Live Bands, DJs and join interactive singing and drumming workshops at Walton's Between the Tides Festival 17-20th September.

 

Interactive Music Workshops


On Saturday


On Sunday,

  • Wooden Roots are running African Drumming Workshops all day at Bath House Meadow starting at 10.00am.

  • At 1.30pm Emmanuel Church is hosting a Ukelele Workshop at the Amphitheatre and at 3pm it’s organising a Family Ceileidh at the church. There will be a special Festival church service at Emmanuel at 10.30 am.


Live Bands


On Friday

  • Boogaloo Dudes bring some unforgettable vintage hits with some tasty guitar and soaring harmonies to East Coast 5, starting at 6pm.

  • Local blues duo Broomwagon will be playing Bruff at the same time.

  • The Harwich Bawleys Shanty Singers will be raising some rousing tunes at the Yacht Club at 7pm.

 

On Saturday

  • Start your day at 8am under the pier on the beach with the extraordinarily soothing Gong with the Wind from Her & Her.

  • At Millenium Square, the stage will be heaving with talent. Walton’s own Feel Good Choir will be belting out rich harmonies at 1pm. Local shanty sensation Hoy Boy kicks off at 2-4. Washed Up Folk is scheduled for 2.50pm and Soul’d Out Funk lets rip at 4pm.

  • At 2.30 pm at Emmanuel Church, Adam Dyer and Katharine Paul on piano and violin will bring their own blend of jazz/folk, inspired by the tides, moon and celestial cycles.

  • Format will be the venue for a live performance of Magic Seas at 2pm, serving up a fine blend of indie and dream pop.

  • Bruff will host local folk band She Brings the Rain (and friends) at 1.30pm and at 7pm Sammy B will perform her tribute to Amy Winehouse.

  • East Coast 5 presents Frankie on Saxaphone at 4-6pm and across the street at East Coast Studios there’s a Comedy Night in the basement starting at 8pm (also in Sunday at the same time). 

  • At 6pm don’t miss the vibrant sounds of rising local singing stars Evy Frearson and Sam Eagle at All Saints Church.

 

On Sunday

  • On the Dodgems Stage on the Pier, you can hear no fewer than four fabulous bands starting with punk from Sunraze at 12 noon, dream pop and contemporary indie of Distorted Model at 1pm, folk sounds of Band of Fools at 2, experimental psych, funk, soul, dub and reggae from Hobo Chang at 3, and local indie-rock from Lost Atlas at 4.

  • My Hope My Art by Troupe de Dance from South Africa will treat us to a high energy dance style that originated in the townships in the apartheid era. That's at 11am at Bath House Meadow. (After that you might be inspired to try African drumming yourself at the Wooden Roots workshop nearby)

  • East Coast 5 hosts the Landed Accoustic 11.30-2.30 and Sarah Hughes 2.30-4.30..

 

DJs

On Friday evening, Festival visitors can arrive aboard

  • the Old School Disco Train (running from Colchester North to Walton-on-the-Naze) and continue their musical journey with a short walk down to the Walton Tavern, where the 

  • Jam Project DJs will continue the party into the night or

  • listen to DJ Al and DJ Martin at Format at 5.30pm.
